An “Eye-Opening” Experience:

On Wednesday June 6th, our CEO Ron Patterson of Tech Help Los Angeles was invited to a BIT LA (Black’s In Technology – Los Angeles) meetup at the Google offices in Venice, CA.

Patterson stated that his attendance at the meetup was an “eye-opening” experience. He was impressed by caliber of talent in the room and the knowledge and resources that were available. Google welcomed the group and embraced their efforts to come together and chat about different topics in technology. The group consisted of software developers, programmers, project managers, designers, analysts, and more from Raytheon, Google, Microsoft, CBS, and other private companies.

Ron Patterson of Tech Help Los Angeles was delighted to attend this meetup and plans to contribute to the organization’s goals to build a community of African American technology professionals who are working with or interested in Web-based and related technologies.

More Information about Black’s In Technology – Los Angeles:

The goal for Blacks In Technology Los Angeles (BIT-LA) is to create a vibrant community of like-minded African American technology professionals, innovators and enthusiasts who are working with or interested in Web-based and related technologies. We’re talking the whole techie gamut from bloggers, digital media specialists, community managers and web masters to web designers, social media strategists, PHP developers, online marketing experts, recruiters, software developers and project managers.

And of course the doors are wide open for those folks who are simply just passionate about all things technical.

We will meet regularly at least once a month for fun socializing and high level talks on the technology topics. We plan to feature educational meetups to learn latest technical developments in fields of interest. We also look forward to hosting mashup events with many of the multitude of great tech groups based in Los Angeles.

We also plan to participate in local startup events and help bring together Los Angeles-based developers and web entrepreneurs for possible business opportunities.

We feel this will be an excellent venue to exchange ideas and talk about web technology, innovation, open source, share our knowledge and experience with one another. Tell us how technology is changing the world. Anyone interested in tech is welcome!

Apple WWDC: iOS 5 integrates Twitter into contacts, photos, Safari and more

June 6, 2011 |  8:20 pm

Apple and Twitter have teamed up to allow iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to tweet photos, maps, websites and other items directly from within the iOS operating system.

Scott Forstall, Apple’s senior vice president of iOS software, announced Monday morning at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco that Twitter would be baked into iOS 5, which is coming to i-devices this fall.

“People send more than a billion tweets per week,” Forstall said during the event’s first-day keynote. “And we hear from a lot of our customers on iPhone and iPad and iPod Touch that they love Twitter. And so we want to make it even easier for all of our customers to use Twitter on iOS products.”

One of the major ways that Apple is integrating the microblogging site into iOS 5 is with a single sign-on feature. Users will be able to sign into their Twitter accounts once, and all Twitter-enabled apps will respond — eliminating the need to enter a username and password for each individual app.

The single sign-on feature then will enable iOS 5 users to post directly to Twitter from built-in iOS apps such as Photos and Camera, Safari (for tweeting links to websites), YouTube (for tweeting videos) and Maps (for tweeting locations). And Apple has made APIs available so third-party developers can take advantage of the single sign-on feature for their own apps.

Apple’s iOS 5 will also pull Twitter profile pictures and Twitter handles into an iOS user’s contacts list alongside names, email addresses and phone numbers.

Jack Dorsey, who co-founded Twitter and oversees the San Francisco company’s product development, wrote a short post on Twitter’s blog about the iOS integration.

“Building Twitter into iOS 5 truly creates the easiest way to share everything that’s happening in your world,” Dorsey wrote. “Take a picture, tap ‘Tweet.’ Tweeting has never been simpler.”
